Round Table Rondel

The Rondel Cup

4 May 2001

Newent Round Table has established a new Round Table Tournament, "The Rondel Cup" involving tablers from Ross, Forest of Dean, and Newent. The overall tournament consists of a number of fun events, with each Table hosting a number of nominated events. The overall league performance of each table will be recorded here on this webpage. With the tournament winners being declared at a special presentation dinner evening at the end of the table year. (Further details on this will be released in due course.)

Skittles - NEWENT Round Table (3rd May)

The first event in this tournament was a Skittles match at The Kings Arms, Newent hosted by Newent Round Table. A good turnout from all 3 tables enabled an extremely close contest between Ross and Newent. Unfortunately, the members of the Forest of Dean team all appeared to be suffering from travel sickness after arriving late with Chairman Scott Kerr. But all appeared to be well after a short meal break. The tension grew after the final round revealed a tied score card of 203, between Ross and Newent. Naturally, the only way to decide the team winners was for the Chairman of both Ross and Newent to bowl one more round each. Newent lost the toss and went first, Howard Webber scored a good 6. But poor old Dave Sharpe couldn't beat it, he only manage a score of 5. Bad luck Ross!

After such a close game, it was left to a game of "Killer" to identify who were truly the anoraks of skittles. Hadyn Robinson from Ross Round Table, took the prize money and gleemed in all the glory of Chief Skittles Anorak.

At the end of the event, Newent Chairman, Howard Webber thanked everyone for attending the event and invited Forest of Dean Round Table to organise the next Challenge - A Golf Match at Forest Hills Golf Club, Coleford on the 21st June.
