Newent Round Table, Inaugral Meeting

INAUGURAL DINNER

Newent Round Table held its inaugural dinner at the Chase Hotel, Ross-on-Wye on Friday, 9th October 1964. The event was attended by nearly 200 members from 19 tables.

Ross Table sponsored the new table at Newent, one of the former members of Ross, Mr. K. S. Law, who whose Area Extension Officer at the time, did much to bring Newent table into being, travelled from his new home in Scotland to attend the dinner.

Newent had 18 founder members with Mr. David Preece as Chairman, Mr. Brian Pepler as Vice-Chairman, Mr David Cox as Secretary, and Mr. P. Groves treasurer.

Mr. R. Chalklin, of Worcester, the Area Chairman, presiled. The toast to "RTBI" was proposed by Mr. D. Ursell, of Ross, and the reply was given by Mr. D Tatlow, of Wolverhampton, National Convenor of Extension and Membership.

Mr. J. Thomas, Chairman of Ross Round Table proposed the toast to "Guests and Visiting Tables" and Mr. J. Nicholas of Cheltenham, Immediate Past Chairman of Area replied.
