Newent Round Table, Charter

CHARTER DINNER

Newent Round Table held its charter dinner at the Chase Hotel, Ross-on-Wye on Thursday, 7th October 1965. The event was attended by 292 members from 31 tables in places far afield as Stirling and Frome, Bridgend and Bromsgrove.

Newent, sponsored by Ross Table, became a full associate member of the Round Table organisation. It was the 17th table in Area 23 which at the time stretched from Swindon to Leominster.

The National President of Round Table, Mr. Duncan Lawton, of Oldham, was present at the event. Dr. W. H. McIlveen, President of Newent proposed the toast to "RTBI" and the response was given by Mr. Duncan Lawton.

The members of Newent Round Table were introduced by Mr. Leslie Parsons, Chairman Area 23. The Charter was presented by Mr. Leslie Parsons, to Mr. David Preece, Chairman of Newent Round Table.

Mr. Peter Groves, Newent Round Table proposed the toast to "Guests and Visiting Tables" and Mr. John Bradley, of Bromsgrove, Chairman Area 35 replied.

Toast Master for the evening was Mr. Tony Harper, Gloucester, Area 23 Extension Officer.
